Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
At the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society Inc, our visitors are at the heart of everything we do. We\make limited use of artificial intelligence (AI) to assist with selected administrative, research and communication tasks. Our railway remains proudly people-focused, with our volunteers and staff delivering the authentic heritage experiences our passengers value.
This policy reflects our current use of AI. As technology and our organisation evolve, our practices may also change, and this policy will be reviewed and updated accordingly.
How we use AI
• Research and planning – AI may assist with research, brainstorming ideas and summarising information to support planning and informed decision-making.
• Website and communications – AI may assist with drafting or refining website content, marketing material, website information and social media posts. All published content is reviewed and approved by a member of our team before use.
• Administrative support – AI may assist with analysing website performance, preparing summaries and improving workflow efficiency, allowing our volunteers and staff to spend more time supporting passengers and preserving our heritage railway.
Our safeguards
• People come first – AI is used only as a support tool and never replaces human judgement, customer service or operational decision-making.
• Privacy matters – We respect the privacy of our passengers, volunteers and supporters. We do not enter personal or sensitive information into public AI tools. Our approach to handling personal information is guided by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, where applicable.
• Accuracy is important – AI-assisted content is reviewed by a member of our team before publication or use to help ensure it is accurate, appropriate and reflects the values of Pichi Richi Railway.
• Transparency – Our photography, videos and storytelling primarily feature genuine experiences on the Pichi Richi Railway. Where significant AI-generated creative content is used, we will endeavour to identify it appropriately.
• Human support – If you would prefer to speak with a member of our team, we’re always happy to help.
Our commitment to responsible AI - Artificial intelligence continues to evolve, and so will our approach. The Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society is committed to reviewing our AI practices regularly to ensure they remain responsible, transparent, ethical and aligned with our values, legal obligations and the expectations of our passengers, volunteers and community.
As new technologies emerge, we will continue to assess where AI can responsibly support our organisation while preserving the authentic, people-first heritage experiences that make the Pichi Richi Railway unique.
