The Coffee Pot Lottery, launched in April 2007, generated over $9,000.00 in ticket sales towards fundraising for a new boiler for the Coffee Pot.

The Coffee Pot is one of the most historic vehicles in Pichi Richi Railway's collection, a direct link with the early part of last century.  Design work and engineering certification is currently underway for the construction of an all-steel welded boiler.

First prize was a finely detailed model of the Coffee Pot, handmade by the late Pichi Richi Railway member Mr Geoff Horne.  These models are highly prized by collectors and train lovers, and this model was independently valued at $2,000.

The draw for the Coffee Pot Lottery was undertaken at 12 noon on the 17 November 2007 at the Cosy Nook Hall, 16 Victoria Street Klemzig.  The draw was conducted in accordance with the major licence requirements under the Lottery and Gaming Act 1936.  The Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society's Treasurer Eric Platt drew the winning tickets.

The results of the draw are as follows:

  • First Prize: Geoff Horne’s model of the Coffee Pot, value $2,000.  Won by Jeff Hague of Reynella East   (Ticket 0256)
  • Second Prize: Port Augusta weekend package – accommodation at the Standpipe Golf Motor Inn, Twilight Champagne cruise with Gulf Getaways, and a trip on the Afghan Express (including lunch) for 2, value $590.  Won by Jack Carson of North Haven   (Ticket 0326)
  • Third Prize: Coffee indulgence package – Griffiths hamper & Coffee Machine from Retravision Port Augusta, value $300.  Won by Barrie Letheby of Happy Valley   (Ticket 0019)
  • Fourth Prize: One dozen wines from Remarkable View Wines, value $240.  Won by Neville Clark of Bellevue Heights  (Ticket 0102).
