MEDIA RELEASE

Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society will be running a special steam train to take passengers to the annual Quorn Show this year.

“The Quorn Show is proud of its history, having started back in 1880. Pichi Richi Railway shares that link with the past, and this is a perfect way for show-goers from Port Augusta and surrounding areas to make a real day of it”, said Cathy Smythe, marketing officer for Pichi Richi Railway.

The steam train will depart Port Augusta Railway Station at 9.30am, arriving in Quorn at 11.15am. After the show passengers will be able to board their carriage for the return journey from Quorn at 3pm, arriving in Port Augusta at 4.45pm.

Marg Metzger, secretary of the Quorn Show, says the show has all the ingredients for a popular family day out. Along with the aspects of a traditional rural agricultural show, explains Marg, they have also added a few interesting twists.

Along with the horses in action, sideshows and the grand parade, there will be line dancing demonstrations, vintage car displays, a motorbike display, a ‘beaut ute’ competition, best decorated bike competition for the children, and puppet shows on the hour.”

“We are pleased to have Pichi Richi Railway’s support this year”, said Marg.

The steam train will certainly add to the whole day out for show goers.”

The Quorn Show Special Train will only cost a single fare for the return journey to all travellers. Adults will cost $34 return, Concession $29, and school children $12

Entry to the Quorn Show will cost Adults $5, Children over 5 $2.

Tickets can be booked by ringing Pichi Richi Railway bookings 1800 440 101, or at Wadlata Outback Centre, 41 Flinders Terrace, Port Augusta 8642 4511.
