Several successful trial runs of this locomotive have been undertaken recently. This follows a restoration project which is now virtually complete.

An event to commemorate W22's return to service will be held in the coming months.

Pichi Richi Railway's W22 has been rebuilt from ex-Western Australian locomotive W916, using items from ex-Silverton Tramway Company's W22. W22 was obtained from the Puffing Billy Railway. Due to the poor condition of W22's boiler, its restoration was not feasible.

W22 was in service with the Silverton Tramway from 1951 to 1960 on the Broken Hill (New South Wales) to Cockburn (South Australia) narrow gauge. It was built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester, England.
