Perhaps you'd prefer to travel in royal fashion aboard Commonwealth Railways Special Car No. 3, NSS34. It was used by HRH the Duke of Gloucester during his 1934 Australian visit. Commonwealth Railways carriage NRC36 (now NIA36) is also in our collection - you could re-enact General Douglas MacArthur's famous speech "I came out of Bataan, and I shall return", standing on the same carriage platform from which those famous words were spoken in 1942.
Your train, your way
Ever wanted your own train? This is your chance to pretend you own the railway! Hire a steam train, the unique Coffee Pot steam motor coach, or a vintage diesel railcar for a customised experience by day or night for up to 250 passengers.
On-board catering facilities are available with a range of local caterers to choose from.
Our charters are exclusive experiences delivered by our specially trained volunteer train crews and availability is limited. If you wish to hire a private train be sure to enquire well in advance of your travel date.
