The Transcontinental and Pichi Richi Explorer both depart Quorn at 10:30am and travel as a double header to Woolshed Flat. The Transcontinental continues to Port Augusta and passengers have plenty of time to enjoy lunch or visit the many attractions before departing Port Augusta at 2:30pm for a 4:30 arrival in Quorn.

Double heading occurs only a few times a year and requires skilled techniques and careful cooperation between the engine crews. Double heading simply means using two locomotives at the front of a train, with each locomotive operated individually by its own crew.
