"Pink steam day" is usually the first steaming of the locomotive, and involves opening the throttle with the cylinder covers off to blow out rust and other rubbish from the steam lines.In NM25's case, Pink Steam Day was 10 April 2003 at Quorn Locomotive Depot.

11 April 2003, NM25 eases out of the loco shed for the first time under its own power for nearly 38 years.
First test run
First test run
The first test run of NM25 was from the depot to Quorn station and return on 11 April 2003.A grand total of little over 1 mile, the test nonetheless proved that most basic funtions were satisfactory, and a few niggling leaks needed resolving.
